Cancer: Cervical & Ovarian Message Board

Cancer: Cervical & Ovarian Board Index

I'm a 21 year old college student and I've had strange health issues all my life. Most notably were recurrent large ovarian cysts and Interstitial Cystitis. Recently I had a pap test come back abnormal, and a colposcopy confirmed that I had precancerous cells in my cervix. My doctor told me not to worry and that my body would most likely take care of the situation itself, so he just had me go back three months later for a check up pap, which I had a few days ago.

The test went absolutely horribly - I started bleeding all over the place just because of the cotton swab test and it was horribly painful. This could be related to my IC but it's never happened before. Also, he decided to do the whole vinegar test to check things out, and he repeated it three times (literally) because he said he had to get mucus out of the way (which he tried to do and was unable to do). This was all horribly painful.

Next he did something that he's never done before (and I've had many paps with him) - he called a nurse to immediately come take the pap sample and deliver it to a "specialty laboratory", which I guess is different from where the samples usually go. Now he's telling me not to worry and to just call later for the results, but I'm absolutely freaking out. Does this all seem abnormal?? My boyfriend says he was just being thorough, but all I can think about are all my family members who died from cancer and the possibility that I wont be able to have children. Someone please tell me I'm overreacting... I just can't calm down and I'm tired of hearing "don't worry" because I am worried!!!
