Cancer: Cervical & Ovarian Board Index

Hello Margie,

Good luck on getting that second opinion. I think you are right about taking care of this while the insurance is in place. Just to answer your question regarding the CA-125, yes 9.5 is a normal reading. Anything under 35 is considered normal. My reading was 7. The CA-125 is actually more accurate in postmenopausal women than in premenopausal ones so the lower reading actually means more in your case than in mine (I am 42 and premenopausal).

The cramping could be due to the scar tissue or to your cervix being "tight" as you mentioned in one of your posts. They still have to try to figure out why you are bleeding so that you can have some peace of mind. I am sure that if you know that they have ruled out the more serious causes, you will be more satisfied than simply being told that you have to live with it. Perhaps the next time you go for an internal ultrasound or a pap smear you might consider taking a couple of Advil about an hour before. Check with your doctor to see if this is advisable. I know when I had my endometrial biopsy done, I took a couple of Advil before and I had no cramping whatsoever. My doctor was stupefied because he said that women always have cramping with this type of biopsy and due to my own cervix being difficult (I have never had children) he had to clamp it open in order to take the tissue sample (ouch !). Keep in mind though that Tylenol is not the same thing .. it must be ibuprofen of some label (Motrin, Advil, Pamprin etc..).

I really hope you get to the bottom of this very soon. I myself have my six month ultrasound tomorrow and am starting to get nervous. I really hope that at the very least my ovarian cyst is the same size and of the same morphology (ie. a simple fluid filled cyst). These ovarian cysts cause ever so much anxiety ...

All the best,

Estria
