Cancer: Cervical & Ovarian Message Board

Cancer: Cervical & Ovarian Board Index

Background: 40 yrs old, 7 pregnancies, 2 children, 5 miscarriages, hysterectomy after last baby due to extremely bad fibroids, breast and ovarian cancer run in my family, started period at 9, have had SEVERAL female surgeries in my lifetime due to various problems- starting at 15.

I was suffering from hip pain back in April 2010. Went to an ortho, he ordered a CT of my hip. Found out that I still had my ovaries (I was naive and stupid and thought that a hysterectomy meant that they took everything out) and that they had cysts on them. Went straight to the OB/GYN who was evil and told me that it was "a red herring" and that I was fine. She asked me to come back every 3 months for a follow up U/S. Needless to say, I couldn't afford that (crappy health insurance) so I didn't do that.

Fast forward to earlier this year. I had some extremely bad pain in my lower right abdomen. Pretty sure that it was a cyst rupturing. I did NOT go to the ER or anything (my husband was out of town and I had no one to watch my children), so I just "toughed it out". This was in January. A few months before that I mysteriously gained about 20-25 lbs. Between April and August of this year, I've lost about 68 lbs. (I'm not complaining. . .I was obese before.) Now, I can't seem to lose an ounce, have constant abdominal pain that radiates to my hip, leg and back. I pee all the time urgently. I've been constipated pretty continuously for the past 8 months. It hurts more when I exercise and have sex.

So, I finally go to see a new OB/GYN and he barely listens to me, orders and ultra sound with shows that same complex right ovarian cyst with septations and debris (and a simple cyst on the left ovary). The cyst has grown from 2.0 X 2.1 X 4 cm to 3.51 X 3.65 X 3.85 cm. My right ovary is also five times the size of my left.

All my OB/GYN seems to care about is my bladder!!! He thinks that I have IC and is ordering me a test in January for that. He met with me before he read the U/S results, the tech in his office just told him that I had a couple of cysts. He barely listened to me when I told him that I had had this cyst for over 2 1/2 years now! I wouldn't have even known the actual results of the U/S had I not gotten the report faxed to me!!!

Should I be concerned here or am I being a nutter?
