... I'm 45 and went to my primary care for an annual exam. Blood results showed an elevated CA 125 test. ... (3 replies)
... Hi Plus1more! I don't know a lot about ovarian issues, but I can answer a few questions. The CA125 test is a marker for ovarian funcitoning/proteins. The pap smear is used to detect many cervical changes (though not all - I think it is 80%). When it comes to your ultrasound, find out if you are having an internal scan (transvaginal u/s), also. If so, they may want... (3 replies)
... Hi Scared, First of all, are you SURE that the white area that you saw on the ultrasound was the actual cyst and not something else ? Are you actually looking at ultrasound photos of the cyst or are you going by what you thought you saw on the ultrasound during the examination ? Whenever I go for my ultrasound every six months I have problems actually identifying the cyst... (3 replies)

... Hi Winking, Mommyandwifey is correct. The ovarian cysts may actually have NOTHING to do with the pain that your aunt is experiencing. They may be normal follicular cysts that come and go with ovulation. The ultrasound will give them much more information and if the cysts are suspicious, they will show up as either very large and / or with solid components (complex cysts... (7 replies)
... Don't worry about rupture. If this thing has not ruptured in 40 years, it is highly unlikely to do so now. ... (18 replies)
... Hello again Carruther, I just reread my last message and just to clarify for you. Your doctor was correct when he said that you cannot tell for sure if a cyst is cancerous or not solely with the ultrasound. However, he is not right in saying that the shape is not significant. Shape and look is definitely significant when it comes to ovarian cysts on ultrasounds. Keep in... (26 replies)

... Hello ld, If you are able to see the report of the ultrasound, this would be best. That way you can see what type of cyst you have and if it requires any further followup. Cysts come and go on a woman's ovaries as a part of their normal functioning but sometimes cysts are not normal. You just want to be sure that the cyst you have is a normal follicular cyst (which most... (11 replies)
... Hi again, Sorry for the delay in replying. The CA-125 is a biomarker for a cancer antigen that is supposed to be present in higher levels when ovarian cancer is present. HOWEVER, this biomarker alone is not always a conclusive test and the levels may be elevated for completely benign reasons such as endometriosis or even simply being on your period. As a result, the test... (3 replies)
... is simply irresponsible. I am getting so sick and tired of doctors brushing off female complaints. As a 40 year old female you are also at increased risk for gall stones so it may be something as simple as that. ... (12 replies)
