I was just wondering what the difference is between these two. I know they both have codeine but are they just different forms? I was able to take hydrocodone a couple of months ago but this tylenol #3 is really making me loopy, spaced out and tired. Of course it could also be the other meds that I have started like the corticosteroid and the effexor that I started at the beginning of the week.

Hey Brian...Hydrocodone and Codeine (Tylenol #3) are two different pain medications. They are both Schedule III drugs, but Hydrocodone seems to be used quite a bit more today, than a few years ago. Tylenol #3, is 300 mg of Tylenol and 30 mg of Codeine. Hydrocodone is the generic name for several different medications. Some of the most popular are Lortab and Vicodin. If you get the generic it will most likely say Hydrocodone 5/500. 5 mg of Hydro and 500 mg of Tylenol. They come it several different doses from 2.5 mg to 10 mg of Hydro.

I think most people feel Hydrocodone is a more potent painkiller and is more popular.
