This is a disorder called trichotillomania, a compulsive hair pulling problem. There are a few reasons she may be doing it but a big one may be stress/anxiety. We tend to forget how difficult it can be to be a child and kids are under more pressure these days. However, there may be other underlying issues (OCD or habit). Have you talked to her about it? It is a good idea to go to a doctor she knows and trusts to discuss this issue and get help. I don't believe it will cause permanent hair loss but I do know it is very upsetting to you and her. My daughter was younger when she used to pull hair out of her head at night, luckily we used mittens and it helped her stop. Good luck to both of you!
