Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) Board Index

Hello, I have PCOS and I'm currently pregnant. I was diagnosed 10 years ago and back then was put on the pill. I was on and off the pill over the years and I only had my periods when I took the pill. Back then I wasn't trying to get pregnant so I didn't take care of myself too well. About 3 years ago I was put on Metformin and was told I needed to lose weight. I lost 25 pounds and started to live a healthier life. I went off the pill last year and I started to have my periods on my own, my doctor tells me that was due to losing the weight, living a healthier lifestyle and Metformin. I got married 2 years ago and October of 2007 I went off the pill to try to get pregnant. We first tried on our own for 3 months and nothing happens, then my RE put me on Clomid for 3 months also nothing happened. Then my husband was tested and we came to find out he had low sperm count, so we did one IUI in June and that did not work, so in July we decided to do IVF and it worked. I found out two weeks ago I am expecting. Not all women with PCOS have to go through infertility treatments. I have a friend who also had PCOS and she got pregnant only after taking Metformin for 3 months.
Every PCOS case is different some women have a hard time conceiving others don't. I do think that most go through infertility but I don't think they should be told they will never be able to have children until they actually have tried everything possible.
Good luck to all of you
