Re: Lucky

I have been suffering from PCOS for quite some time and went undiagnosed for many years. I got pregnant with my first son out of the blue. That year I never got my period. After having him, I lost some weight and my periods were kind of regular. Then all of a sudden I ballooned and it stopped coming. Again I went on a quest to find a doctor to help me. After many tries I finally found one.

The treatment I was initially given was Metformin and Provera. I had to go monthly for blood work so he could monitor my hormone levels. He gradually raised my Metformin prescription, once at 2000 mg a day, I started getting my period regularly. Then I got pregnant.

After my second child, my period did not return and we went back to the Metformin/provera combo. The provera would bring down my period but without it nothing happened. I also started losing more hair and gaining hair on my face. The weight problem is bad enough but the facial hair and hair loss was really upsetting. I told the doctor about this and he started prescribing spironolactone. This is a diuretic but it happens to also help with hair loss and facial hair.

Since taking the spironolactone I have noticed less hair loss, facial hair hasn't diminished much but it hasn't gotten worse. The past part (I guess) is I now get my period without the provera. So I know I am ovulating. You may want to ask your doctor about this medication, maybe it will work better than the provera/clomid combination.

Good Luck!

[QUOTE=begus15;3781232]Hi, First time on this so abit nervous, Me and my hubby have been trying for a baby for over a yr now and have no joy, I have never had regular periods, I was diagnosed with PCOS 6 months ago. I did have a complete miscarriage Nov 07. The day my results come in from the docs and I learned I was pregnant was the day I started bleeding.which had knocked me about a little. However I soon started going back to my Gyno and they prescribed me with Metformin 500mg, which didnt help me at all, I have now just started on Provera 5mg which I had to take 1 tablet twice a day for 5 days which should make me bleed, I had to wait 10 days for my bleeding to start as you can imagin its nearly been a whole yr since my last preiod so i wasnt looking forwards to it all,:( today 03/11/2008) I started my period its very light, I thought it would be really heavy but its not too bad yet. I was also prescribed Povera for another cycle but also CLOMID to take on the 2nd Day of my 2nd cycle this should hopefully make me ovulate. so fingers and toes crossed I will keep you posted.

Any one with help or advise would be greatly appreciated.
