8 pounds, 3 ounces, a healthy and beautiful baby boy!

I was scheduled for an induction based on the baby’s size/my frame (and big head at that LOL). I was 1 ½ cm dilated and 70% effaced when we went in last Saturday at 5pm to receive Cervadyl to thin out the cervix. Unfortunately, my body didn’t react well with the medication and it actually brought on a ton of contractions (some every minute, and others would come on 3x in a row without any break). At midnight, the nurse called my OB-GYN because of all the difficulty and they decided to remove the cervadyl. She said the contractions would go away in an hour or two but it was determined that I had gone into active labor and I had consistent contractions until 5am which is when they injected the pitocin for the induction.

Labor went really well after that, it moved super fast and they gave me an epidural at 8am when I was 5 cm dilated. Long story short, I pushed for 3 good hours and he popped out! We didn’t know what sex the baby was so when he was half way out I was asking all the drs./nurses, what is it what is it! They said it wasn’t out yet and then just a minute later he came out and everyone started laughing. Sure enough, we had a big, beautiful, healthy little boy!!! 8 pounds, 3 ounces and 21 inches long born at 12:48 pm Sunday. A lot of people scared me about an induction but I think it actually made my labor more controlled and quicker.

A few things that surprised me:
Something I thought I never would do- I asked to see a mirror of the labor toward the end and it helped TREMENDOUSLY with pushing. I think I wouldn’t have had to push as long if I had it sooner.

The amount of blood loss after delivery. They send you up to the room and I wasn’t able to stay in bed for long due to the blood flow and clots.

Breastfeeding- very difficult the first few days but it gets much better as your milk comes in.

Post labor belly- full of jelly! I went home thinking I would lose all this weight from all the fluid and his weight, and I only took off 5 pounds!!!!

As soon as my son was placed on my belly he grabbed my finger and held onto it. It was the most precious thing ever and I could not stop crying.

It was the most amazing experience of our lives. I still can’t believe that he’s ours to keep and love. We are truly blessed and I wish all of you the best of luck on your pregnancy and deliveries!

PS, I am proof that bleeding early on in pregnancy may not necessarily mean miscarriage. I had on and off bleeding and spotting for the first 12 weeks and was petrified that I wouldn't carry full term. Low and behold, he's here and he's healthy!
