She could have an area of the placenta separating early (abruptio placenta) and this can get serious. She should call her Dr. and be examined to be sure. Usually pink discharge occurs during labor when about 4-5 cm dilated, not in the absence of contractions, 4 weeks early. She really needs to at least talk to her Dr. on the phone. They may want to do an ultrasound to see where the placenta is sitting and if it is intact or separating somewhere causing the bleeding.
