Things hardly ever work out once a couple splits up...but I really feel for you, because I"m sort of going through the same thing. I decided right at the start that I needed to make a clean, permanent break. I might talk to him eventually, but I think being friends and being around him would keep my hopes up, prolong my misery, prevent me from moving on, and mourning over someone who left me. I personally don't think it's a good idea for me to have any hope whatsoever of getting back together (because we mostly broke up because of family problems, which aren't going away), but your situation may be different because of working together. In general though, I think the best way to handle a break up is to move on and cut off all contact (assuming you want to heal and get on with your life as soon as possible). That's what I want, and I know it won't happen if I see my ex and have to start missing him all over again . But then he is also my best friend and I still love him very much, so I know how tough it can be to give up completely. I wish you luck no matter what...hang in there, and it will get a little easier day by day.
