Thanks. Yeah I pretty much figured that's what it comes down to. It'd be cool to have my SO's group too but since I'm a guy, and my SO has mostly female friends, that's not likely to happen haha.
Why not? Women can be your friends too, and also, don't forget that all these women have boyfriends, husbands, brothers, male co-workers, etc. that you can befriend as well. I think perhaps you need to be just a bit more open to the opportunities you have. I can relate to what you're feeling, it's been a long time since I've really had a social group. Most of them were through my boyfriend, and really they were mostly jerks, but it was fun to go clubbing and have something to do. I do have a couple of acquaintances now, but I don't see them very often and when I do, it's usually low key, sipping wine around the fire and playing guitar instead of what my life used to be like, seeing my boyfriend's band play, dancing and hanging out till 1:30am. But we have to make the most of what we're given at the moment.

Why not throw a bbq? I mean, take a chance you never know what might happen. You do have to be a bit careful when making out the guest list. I mean, I don't think it would be a good idea to invite an Ann Coulter type and a Bill Mahr type to the same party, make sure the people won't end up brawling, but why not plan a little weekend get together or maybe a game night for some co workers you chat with at work and your girlfriend and her friends and their friends, and see what happens? You might have a blast! But I do think you need to get rid of your preconceived notions and expectations on what you imagine the perfect social group to be. Sometimes you have to take people as they come, and that's still better than being alone. Good luck to you.
