just realized i have rls. stopped coffee 2 weeks ago and ironically that's when it started. others blame caffeine. will try soap idea. i brush my skin once in a while as i tend to be dry and that has settled my legs a little, also am being weaned from celexa, an antidepressant, and the legs are getting worse as I go down in dosage, opposite of everything ive read so far. any one relate?
Hate to tell you about the caffeine, but it takes about 3 months to get it out of your system and lose the cravings. It is a long time to put up with the increase in RLS, but better in the long run. Alcohol is supposed to make RLS worse, but it doesn't for me! The soap suggestion was for leg cramps. RLS isn't leg cramps! It is a difficult to describe feeling in your legs and you HAVE to move them. This usually happens when you relax. I would imagine that anything you do chemically to your body will have an effect on the RLS. RLS must be some kind of nerve thing, and our nerves are controlled by chemical reactions. Altering your chemical balance may make RLS worse initially, but it might come good when your system has gotten back to 'normal'. Maybe you should keep drinking coffee until you are off the celexa? Depends how bad the RLS is, and only you know that. Once you are off the celexa, then try getting off the coffee. I have been off the coffee for about 9 months, but I still get bouts of RLS. Just not so bad. It might just be a coincident that you got RLS just as you were going off coffee...?

I totally relate! I, too, am weaning myself from celexa. This past week I tried to split my tablets into fourths. Bad week. Thursday night was the absolute WORST! Nearly fell asleep several times driving during the day. I called my doctor for help and he forgot to call in a prescription of something -- ANYTHING that would help! Wound up calling the on-call doc around 7 when legs were gettin jumpy & I was CUUHHHRANKY and he called in 4 lortab5s (?) They worked! Slept like a baby Friday from 8pm till 10am Saturday. Here's hoping it's just temporary, but I just found out Mom & Dad & Uncle, etc. all suffered terribly with RLS. Wish me luck with the regular doc on Monday! Hope yours improves.
