My husband has one of these devices. The Dr will put you through a trial device (temporary) before they will put a permanent device in. During the trial you will get to see if it will even work. The problem with these is if the device placement isn't 100% it won't work very well. The leads are put in place to cover the affected area. I would say the recovery for implantation (permanent) is about 6 weeks. Your body will tell you what you are ready to do. My husband has had his device for a year and already wants it out. It shocks him when he isn't sitting down or laying still. Deep breaths or sneezing shocks him. He has been in to be reprogrammed every 3-6 months. We were under the impression that he could use it anytime. Not sure if it helps for sensations. I am only aware that this is effective for pain.
Hello, thank you for this information. My pain management doctors will not stop pushing me towards the spinal cord stemulator. I am only 30 years old and am terrified that if the leads are placed wrong or anything my rsd can spread. Random shocking...no thanks.
