Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD) (CRPS) Board Index

Hi Suzie - I seen you post on the other foot board and I've posted there a few times too. You are in good company as I had an Austin Bunionectomy and my baby toe was laying side ways so Dr. put it back up and then called it hammertoe surgery, which really it wasn't. BUT, at any rate my surgery was March 23, 2004. I won't go into the long story, but I had a lot of Physical Therapy, Dr. and PT kept telling me it just takes time. I do have scar tissue built up in great toe however the pain was incredible so that no matter how much I would flex my foot to get back my range of motion only 30% came back and the pain under the toe and in foot was horrible. After 4 and 1/2 months I saw another Dr. He immediately diagnosed me with RSD. These were the signs. My foot discolored to red and purple, occasionally would be warmer than other foot, occasionally would be verymuch colder than other foot. Could wear my very worn out tennie, but absolutely no socks cuz my skin was too sensitive. No sheets or anything at night either. The burning is inside, like someone is touching you with something hot inside your foot. My Xrays started showing osteo in June. My darn foot Dr. had every sign of RSD in front of him - I was sleeping 1 1/2 hours a night while on Hydrocodone 2 pills each 7.5 mg. He really thought I was making more of this. I even told him I delivered my babies naturally, so I can withstand pain but this was awful. Needless to say, I am glad to be rid of him..There is a Triphaze bone scan that should be done that can help, (but is not foolproof) determine if you have early RSD. I am presently laying on the couch off my foot as the scar tissue aggrevates my RSD. My symptoms are much better if I do this. I am waiting for my HMO insurance to approve a team of Drs. my family physician has recommended me to see. They are in our State Research Center, all under one roof and all specialize in RSD. I will see a pain management doctor, a neurologist and an orthopedic doctor to deal with scar tissue. They are out of network, so my family physician is battling with them. I will know by midweek. Ihope this helps you a little. Really think hard about your circulation in your foot too, not just burning. Do you get funny little almost electrical pains? Can you lay with your foot in any position besides flat on back. Can you lay on your stomach with top of foot down? Think hard about everything your foot is doing. Does it throb outside of the met head? Let me know and maybe we can weed through some of your pain and other symptoms...hope this helps...Beth

Hi Beth,
Thank you for the info. This is what is happening......I get those sharp piercing, jabbing pains. It is hard to explain but most of the time it is my whole foot and I really can't pinpoint a certain spot that hurts.I get feelings of like umm bugs crawling up my foot and leg.My big toe keeps twitching or having spasms. Also throbs.I have had electrical shocks and my podiatrist says its my nerves coming back to life.It is really weird my toe moves from side to side twitching. My foot and leg gets red-purple and has white dots(patches). When I lay on my stomach I have to put my foot to the side.
I also have alot of scar tissue that has to be surgicaly removed. And a screw that has to be removed. This was suppose to be done next week but now they want to wait until after the bone scan.
Sue
