Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD) (CRPS) Board Index

So far I have had 3 lumbar sympathetic blocks. I am going for my 4th one tomorrow. The blocks are done at the outpatient surgery center. You can not have anything to eat or drink 6 hours before the block. Also, they should provide you with a list of all the medications you can not take 10 days, 7 days, etc. before the block. At the surgery center they will give you an IV. Because I have mitral valve prolapse I have to get antibiotics in the IV 30 minutes before the procedure. They take you into the surgery room and put you on your stomach. Then they put the sedative in the IV and before you know it you're knocked out. When you wake up in the recovery room they have you get dressed and you're on your way. The entire visit takes less than 2 hours. When you wake up you might be sore where they injected you. Also, your leg will feel very numb when you try to lift it. Someone will have to drive you home after the injection. The first 2 blocks worked for the pain for about 7 hours. The third block that I just got on Monday did not work at all. In fact, my other leg felt numb. I have to ask my doc about that tomorrow. If you have any further questions feel free to ask....
