Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD) (CRPS) Board Index

Hello! I have had RSD for three years in my left hand/arm and now going into my left leg. The numbness you're describing is consistent with RSD. It does feel like the area has been treated with Novacaine. I've had numbness since I first contracted the RSD. That is actually how I knew that something was wrong and not merely a side effect from the carpal tunnel surgery that I had prior to this. The doctor that performed my surgery severed the nerve in my hand, which then led to RSD. I have been on workman's comp ever since, and although I have tried lots of therapies, I'm still not able to stabilize my condition enough to go back to work. I'll tell you one thing that helps with the tingling, skin-crawling numbness. Ask your doctor about prescribing you Lidocaine patches. They are square patches with medication on the sticky side. When applied, it provides a cool, pleasant sensation on the skin and alleviates some of the discomfort from the numbness. I hope this helps and that you can get a little bit of relief!
