Lidocaine infusion
Jul 22, 2007
Hi All,
Besides Michelle, does any one of you try lidocaine infusion? Did it work on you? Does other doctor offer this besides Dr. S.?
Please share your experience please!
Anita
My husband had an infusion with marcane I think. It was infused for several hours and worked for about a day after that. He also had a cervical epidural with fentynyl(sp?) for 4 days last year. Again, worked great while the catheter was in. After that the pain went right back where it was. He has a spinal cord stimulator that worked really will for about 3 months. It is no longer controlling his pain. I think his pain management doctor doesn't know what to do next.Hope this helps.
Tracy
Was the cervical epidural infusion also? Sorry they were not helpful. When did your husband had the marcaine infusion-shortly after the symptoms started? How did your husband suffer RSD? What else he had tried?
Please inform!
We all need a miracle!

Hi Anita,
The cervical epidural catheter delivered fentynyl, similar to an epidural when you have a baby, just up higher on the spine.
The marcaine was 2 weeks ago...he was diganosed with RSD in March 2006. He nearly amputated his ring finger in a snowblower at work in Feb. 06. I know, I know...who puts their finger in a snowblower? Had he known there was blade in that chute, he wouldn't have done that. That was the first time he ever used a snowblower. We were used to the old fashion shovel. He developed symptoms within 3 weeks in that finer as well as his pinky and middle fingers. He now feels the same pain in his back. He has tried PT, meds...currently Lyrica, Celebrex, Cymbalta, Dilaudid and Kadian.Nreve blocks, epidural and finally spinal cord stimulator. He is considering bio feedback and/or hypnosis.
Take care,
Tracy
Thanks Tracy! We all seem to have our tragic story. Hope your husband will find long lasting relief. He seems to be very aggressive with his treatment from the start.
Take care!
Anita
Anita,
I know you have asked about the lidocaine infushion. I actually had someone from DR S office call me today. It was a student dr from his reserach department.. Here they were questioning me about the lidocaine infushion.. Just in detail how it has helped, how long it lasted etc.
Anyway, I talking to her about this heathboard.. I told her I have asked if anyone ever had it.. and I haven't read anyone yet that has. Here she said hes the only one that does it.. and its fairly new reserach. But she had talked to alot of pts who have had it and they all have had positive response from it.. I told her I am sooooo looking forward to another treatment..
Michelle
Michelle,
You are so lucky to be able to have the lidocaine infusion. I read an article from the clinical journal of pain and they had study on 9 patients and 5 of the 9 had positive reponse and it states periodic maintenance infusion may be needed. I hope this therapy will take care of your problem.
By the way, for those who live in CA. I think Stanford may offer this.
Anita
Anita,
I do feel lucky.. Its just such a long wait for it.. They didn't want me to start any new meds until I get this treatment.. Its kind of getting crazy now with this wait.. I rather start the meds and see how they do at this point.. Last time I was suppose to go in.. I didn't have to wait this long..
I wish all of you could try this treatment.. instead of taking meds everyday..
Hopefully the treatment will be through out the US..
How have you been feeling lately? Still with alot of pain?
Michelle
Michelle,
My pain level has gone down after taking oral steriod for 2 to 3 days. However, pain has started to go back up because i can only take one steriod today and tomorrow. I don't know what else is there to stop the inflaminaton. I went to a christian reunion today. I felt so much love and care from my old friends. Pastor and friend pray for me. I felt a little better.
How about you? When can you go in? Did the lidocaine offer you complete pain relief for about a month and a half? Hopefully, the next one will be last longer.
Take care!
Anita
Anita,
I haven't found out when I go in yet. I put a call in.. I figured it would be a while though.. So no biggy.. I did receive alot of comfort from the lidocaine.. 1 1/2 months is long time for someone who has chronic pain.. Yes I was told each one you it last longer.
I am not sure about anti-inflammatory meds.. only non steroidal meds. I've heard of some RSD pts who have taken just ibuprofin for the swelling to others usuing celebrex, Daypro.. I also think even through Neurontin is not a anti-inflammatory drug.. Its also used in pts with RSD to help with swelling..
Hope this helps..
I gald you found some comfort today.. Sounds like you have some nice support going there. Hang in there.. What have you decided about the EMGs? Let me know..
Thinking of you
Michelle

Michelle,
One thing i have noticed is the air condition in my car. It seems to make my pain a little pain in my forearms. I know what you mean. Fortunately, the weather here in Calif is very good, not too hot or cold. Me too, i can't wait to for you to go for your second infusion.
Let us know how you do!
Anita
