I am so new to this and in disbelief and with hope I do not have RSD but as for now the dr. said CRPS so that is what I have until I meet with my Pain doctor again.

What I want to know from more then the internet is how does it spread? Is it a short term thing and go away for awhile and then just come back or does the pain stay always? I have had burning pain in my left arm for about 2.5 yrs and post ACDF it is still here. I have aches in other areas like neck and and elbows and wrists and fingers. Feels like artritus. The only place I have burning pain is arm and sometimes chest. I have had a CT scan to rule out chest issues and that was normal. So I have no idea what to expect. Can it only stay in one area? Or does it always spread? And since it has been so long will any of the treatments work?

Thanks for any input.
Well with me, it started in my left ankle and went to my whole left leg pretty quickly, but I wasn't even diagnosed with RSD until a whole year went by, so it was too late for the blocks to get it. If you catch it within 3 or 4 months, they can usually take care of it. Then mine went to my left arm and as soon as I was feeling the pain there my pm did a block and it has been tolerable since. I have flareups but it is not as bad as my left leg. Then it went to my right leg, the right arm. Again as soon as I was feeling the symptoms, he did a block and my right side is ok, I can live with it. As long as I don't overuse it, the pain is almost not there. It goes numb sometimes, like if I'm on the computer and using the mouse with my right hand.
To put it in some sort of prospective, I had my intial injury(a sprained ankle) in Jan of 2003, diagnosed with RSD in December of that year and well, it's 2007 and it's all over me now., with my left side being the worse. It is in my back as well now and I think my left hip as the other day I felt like someone poked me with a hot poker in my hip. I had felt this a few months ago, but it went away for awhile and now it's back with avengance.
I have only one block for my right arm and one block for my right leg and it's like I said, tolerable and doesn't give me much pain, but the left leg still has the horrible symptoms when the block wears off. I had a bad flareup the past few days and my left arm was burning as well. Its eased up a little(Thank goodness) Because I just had a block on August 15th, so it's too early to get another one.
I hope it works out for you and doesn't spread. All I can tell you is, if you start to feel the symptoms, have then do a block as soon as possible because catching it early enough is the key
