Re: Crps?
Jan 4, 2011
Hi.
I am so sorry to hear that you find yourself in this situation, with all the pain. It sucks, I know. I have been living with CRPS for 4 years now.
As to medications, why is it that you don't want to take narcotics?
Tylenol 3, as far as I know, doesn't really touch this type of pain, and can be pretty harsh on your stomach.
About medications, treatments...
I get Lumbar Sympathetic Nerve Blocks, which help with the pain in my left leg. For some people they completely take away the pain for up to 3 months, for other people only an hour. But it is definitely worth a try in my opinion. I'm not sure if the Lumbar Sym blocks would be what they'd recommend for you, but another type of Nerve Block could help you out.
Myself, I'm on a rather high dose of pain killers (opiates). I have one that I have as a constant pain reliever, and then another one that I take for break-through pain. And even with all that, I have never had full relief. It just makes it manageable for me. I'm not trying to scare you, just let you know my experience.
You could try a TENS machine. I believe that WCB usually will cover the cost of those. If you don't know what it is, I could explain, or you could probably just google it. I've heard from many people with CRPS that it can help with their pain.
Another thing that I use, because I'm so hypersensitive to my socks, shoes, pants, etc on my leg, is a desensitizing cream prescribed by my doctor. It contains a few different meds in a compound cream base. They can get quite expensive though.
How are you with bedsheets and sleeping?? Wondering if you've ever heard of a bed-cradle. (I believe that's what they're called). But it's an assistive device used for people who have increased pain when their blankets touch their feet or legs. http://www.homesupplies-direct.co.uk/bed-accessories/cradles.html This link here is in the UK, I'm not sure where you are located. But the pictures and descriptions make a lot of sense which is why I'm linking this one. My mom actually made a bed cradle for me out of small pvc piping and the links, instead of us having to buy one. It just lifts up the blankets and kinda tents them above your feet.
***Bed cradles: A bed cradle is a frame used to keep the sheets and blankets from laying directly on you while in bed. You can buy or rent many kinds of bed cradles at medical supply stores. Some cover the whole bed and others only cover the feet. Other bed cradles cover just one side of the bed. Many bed cradles have a piece that slides under the mattress to keep it in place.*** http://www.drugs.com/cg/how-to-use-bed-cradles-and-footboards.html

I hope that I was at least a little bit of help, and I'll talk to you soon.

Ashley
