Hi,
I've been taking resperdal for schitzophrenia for a few years now and over the last year have been missing my period. My doctor at first would tell me to get a blood test and then tell me that my prolactin was high and caused my lack of a period. The same thing happened to me when I was on Zyprexa. I have recently read that resperdal has reproductive side effects. I would like to have a baby in the future and don't know what to do. MY Gyno tells me that I have to have my period or I could b ecome barren. She managed to induce a period but has told me that I will have to try changing meds. My Psychiatrist says the same thing and wants to put me on sersoquel. I'm worried that this won't work since the antiphschotics used to treat schitzophrenis are esentially Dopamine inhibitors and as a result elevate levels of prolactin. Has anyone else out there had to deal with a similar situation and could give me advice. I'd really appreciate it.

Hello princess....i just read your post and if it helps i need information as well although in my case i am male and might not be able to help so much regards your questions. However i am interested to know if my fertility is still ok since like u i have been taking risperdal for a while now. I suppose i would have done some damage already, its such a shame as risperdal works well for me and i may not get another medication that works as well....i intend talking to my family doctor about it and see what he suggests.....i believe i read somewhere that risperdal affects fertility in both men and women.....sorry i can't help more than this
