:(I am 20 year old. I have been suffering from schizophrenia for about 5 years. I have auditory illusions. I have constant violent thoughts and came very close to acting on them several times.

I have become used to my situation. What bothers me is that I have really come to love one person. I do not usualy care about people, so it is a strange feeling.

I am very scared that, with my violent thoughts and all, I do something to hurt her. Is it possible for someone with my problem to have a relationship? Am I being selfish? Is it better to stop talking and seeing her to protect her?
Do you take antipsychotics? If you don't then you should (especially if you're having violent thoughts) because they are very helpful. I would not date this girl unless you plan to go on antipsychotics.

It is possible for people with schizophrenia to have meaningful relationships, but only if they are taking their meds. It would be selfish of you to pursue a relationship without taking meds to help control your symptoms. Note that I'm speaking in general terms. If you are taking meds, but are finding that they are not helping your symptoms, I would suggest that you advise your psychiatrist of this so the proper meds can be found. I have auditory hallucinations myself as well as delusions and paranoia, but they have been kept at bay thanks to the antipsychotic I take.
I think as long as you can control your violent thoughts, and can control yourself from carrying them out, you'll be fine. But if its a serious relationship she must be patient and understanding, but i'd still recommend taking meds
Hi dark mind. I have been diagonsed SZ and i am married to a wonderful man. At times it is hard because I always think he is mad at me but that is part of my mental illness and he knows that. I take my meds evryday too and that helps a lot. I think as long as you are truthful with her then it will be ok.
