... Hey Andrew, If your parents won't listen, go see the doctor -- that's what I did. He/she'll be able to put you in touch with a p-doc. I know how hard it is to talk to your parents about this sort of stuff; I still haven't told mine :( But ultimately you don't need to tell your parents -- you can see a p-doc on your own...and then maybe tell your parents afterwards. Don't... (74 replies)

... I've been seeing a psychiatrist for about 2 months now, although I've only had three (hour long) consultations. The first consultation was just a very general chat about my family's history of mental illness and my past drug taking/alcohol consumption. And at the other consultations I've basically just spoken about how I'm feeling/what I'm experiencing. Not sure exactly how... (74 replies)

... If you're sure that you're having some auditory hallucinations you should make an appointment to see your doctor and talk it over with him/her. When I started hearing my name (and I'm not saying that we're suffering from the same thing -- I haven't even been given a diagnosis yet!) being called I knew that I'd better get some sort help. I put the whispering/mumbling I used to... (74 replies)
... I know exactly what you mean about it being hard to tell your parents about this sort of thing. I've been seeing a psychiatrist for about 2 months now and I still haven't told my parents about it. I just don't know how to break it to them. Like you, I sometimes think that I'd be better off on my own. How do you break it your parents that you've started hearing voices? I think... (74 replies)
... Haha.. You kind of sound like me to an extent(except for the 2 page self-evaluation, mine was 3). I would ask a lot of questions that other people seemed to just get instaneously(I've quit due to the negative reaction I get), and I was also in the gifted programs when I was youngster(although I cannot say I'm too active in the mind now, but I don't really have a comparison for... ... It's hard reaching out for help. It took me two years before I finally decided that something was definitely wrong with me. Not having insight into how ill you really are -- i.e. thinking that your fine -- can be a sign that somthing is wrong. Even when I started hearing things I kept telling myself that it was just because I was tired or stressed or something; but I wasn't --... (74 replies)
... Hi Andrew, Nobody on this board can make a diagnosis; only a psychistrist can do that. Some of the things you describe -- the paranoia with regards to your mum, hearing things, and that you think you've received messages from God -- are a bit worrying. Probably the best thing do, just to be on the safe side, would be to go and see your doctor and explain to him/her exactly... (74 replies)
