... In general most melanomas follow the ABCDE rule: asymmetric shape, fuzzy or irregular border, mixed color, diameter bigger than an eraser and evolve (change). But it doesn't have to fulfill all these rules all the time. There are small melanomas, as small as 2mm and you have a color variation with white (possibly gray) in the middle. ... Sure! They can show up any time during your life. You don't have to be born with them. I've had them all over me and none have turned out to be cancer. Even had one come up next to my nipple..yikes! That was weird havng it removed! I've probably had a dozen removed over the years and only 2 came back as "abnormal" so I had to have a large core removed and all was well... (9 replies)
