Sleep Disorders Board Index

I've had sleep problems for approximately 20 years. I would lie awake at night unable to fall asleep then get stressed because I wasn't asleep and it would make it worse. On the nights where I actually fell asleep right away, I would wake up just about every hour.

I have also been diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue but who knows - is it the sleep problems causing the fatigue or the CFS causing the sleep problems?

Anyways, several years ago I found a great doctor who continues to do a lot of research and trial and error stuff for my fatigue. The only thing that has not changed is my sleep. The combination that has worked has been Trazadone and Clonazepam/Klonapin (and I've added Melatonin the last few months). I have tried taking just the Trazadone or just the Clonazepam and it does not work. I have also tried lowering the dose and same results.

So why am I complaining when I am finally getting some sleep? I have the hardest time waking up in the morning. It takes forever and then I'm always running late for work. I feel so incredibly groggy (or the intense brain fog described by people with CFS) I can't stand it and it never feels like I get a good night's sleep even when I sleep right through. I can't concentrate at work. Then I end up drinking too much coffee and it's such a vicious circle. The only time I'm able to get up ok is on the weekends when there's no alarm (but I don't sleep more than 7-8 hours even on weekends).

I hate this fuzziness that I feel. I tried Ambien for sleep twice and both times I halucinated. It was awful. I don't know what else to do. Any suggestions?
