Too much sleep...
Jul 11, 2005
I'm having a problem where I seem to be sleeping for half the day - i.e. 12 hours or more. I consider this a 'problem' because I feel I'm starting to waste my life sleeping - time seems to go so fast now. Months feel like weeks only. Of course I'm worried about the long-term effects on my health too.

Part of the problem is that I keep waking up several times a night to go to the bathroom. When I return to go to sleep, sometimes it takes me a little while to return to sleep. I might be hungry or thirsty for example. So while I'm in bed for 12 hours or more, during that time I'm only probably getting 9-10 hours of actual sleep.
I used to be able to sleep for 8-9 hours straight without waking at all, and get up feeling fine. But now, no matter if I'm exhausted or not tired at all, I can't sleep for more than 4 hours before I have to get up to go to the bathroom! Then I go back to sleep, and another 2-4 hours later, I have to get up again...

Another thing - when I wake up (not counting the first time), I don't know whether its from the urge to go to the bathroom, or if its 'naturally' waking up. If I assume the latter is the case, and I get up, I usually feel tired (though sometimes not right away), like I need more sleep, BUT if I go back to bed for more sleep, then I sleep for much too long. I can't win either way!! Argh.

I'm only 24, so surely this can't be normal? I went to the doctors and had a urine test but there were no problems. I may go back for more tests (i.e. blood test) but I don't know what that would accomplish...
