No sleep
Jun 12, 2008
I have not slept very well at all this week.

I feel hopeless this morning. I want to take a Klonipan at night again. That is the only thing that ever worked for me on a consistant basis.

But I know I cannot because I got addicted to it before.

I am taking 100 mg of Elavil. It seems that I go on this patterns where it works for a while and then it does not.

I am just so emotionally drained this morning.

I have tried so much to help me with my insomnia... But the only thing that worked was Klonipan and I cannot take this anymore...

All I want to do is cry.

Oh Bodie,

I am so very sorry you haven't been sleeping well. It's understandable that you feel emotionally drained. Having a good cry might very well help...sometimes crying helps release/relieve some of those emotions that drain one.

You say that you can go for periods when the elavil works well for you and then sometimes, it doesn't. Have you checked with a varitety of different sources---pharmacist, doctors, drug companies, etc. to see if there might be something (food, supplements, over the counters) that may be interfering with the action of your medication? Forgive me if you have researched this already...it's just that when I have tried to "function" when severely sleep deprived, I overlook many things.

Take care and may you take some comfort in knowing that others here think of you and pray for your relief.

Sincerely,

Bethsheba

I know exactly how you feel, Bodie, and I am so sorry you are going through this.

Do you take your Elavil in one dose? Do you take it at pretty much the same time every day? Do you try to go to bed at the same time (or within the same time of taking the Elavil?) I have noticed that sometimes I miss my "window" for falling asleep after taking my meds because I did not get into the proper sleep mode (turning off the lights, watching stimulating TV, etc.) soon enough after taking my meds.

Also, some meds work better on an empty stomach. Do you take notice of that?

Not sleeping when you are dog-tired really sucks. I hate it more than all of my other ailments (and I have quite a few). When you sleep, you get an escape from your other problems and your body and mind get refreshed. Without it, you just get worn down, both physically and emotionally.

Do you have a sleep doctor? There are many other things you can try besides those you mentioned. A good doctor will work with you to find something (perhaps an off-label use of a med) that will help you sleep. It's evident that your current regimen isn't working for you, and you need to get some help. An internist or neurologist can be helpful if you cannot find a sleep doctor you like.

Keep fighting, and consider non-traditional medications (ie meds not specifically designed for sleep) to help you.

Keeping you in my prayers,
Tex
