Physical Withdrawl?
Mar 10, 2005
I have been smoking for about 10 months now, but have given it up cold turkey a little over 3 weeks ago. I did this because I had to go to the ER thinking I was having a heart attack, it just wasn't worth the risk anymore. All my EKGs (4 in all), chest x-rays, even an enzyme test came back normal. Since quitting I have been having chest pain which feel like extreme pressure. I sometime lose my breath when having these pains. My neck and back are always stiff. I break out in sweats and I get very cold and clamy at times. It really has me scared because I don't know what it is and the doctors have said nothing other than it may be panic disorder (I have had panic attacks in the past). My question is... Can this be a physical withdrawl from my not smoking anymore? If so, do these symptoms last for almost a month? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
It sounds like panic disorder to me - I too suffer with panic attacks from time to time....the stress put on your body, both emotionally and physically from quitting smoking could be bringing on the attacks. You might want to check back with your doctor and see if he can give you something for the attacks - like xanex for when they get too bad to handle.
