Smoking Cessation Message Board

Smoking Cessation Board Index

I smoked 1-2 packs a day for 30 years. I am 5 months quit on Chantix. I am off the Chantix since May 6th. I quit smoking on my 9th day of Chantix. Thought it was not working until I tested it. This med does not magically make you quit smoking. It makes it easier but there has to be some will power and your true desire to quit and stay quit. I under stand the aprehension. With me it took 4-5 days for me to feel a big difference in the smokes. I was not finishing them and they had begun to taste nasty or no taste. Was not getting the buzz. I agonized the day before I had my last cigarette. That is pretty normal so I just told my self just see how long I can go without the smoke by taking it one hour at a time. I counted the 8 hours cig free that I had while sleeping and just added to it the following day. Before I knew it, it had become 24 hrs. All I needed was that first 24 hours cig free to prove to myself that I was stronger than the nicotine. If you can stay quit for 24 hours you can do it if you really really want to. I still take it day to day and I know that I can never take another puff. I feel too good to throw it all away. Good Luck to you newbie quitters!:)
