Re: A myelogram
Jul 9, 2010

Yes it hurts. I don't want to scare you but I have had 3 myelograms and I was told that it would be discomforting. I would strongly recommend asking for a pain pill or muscle relaxer before the procedure. Also, do not be surprised if you feel a heaviness or pain in your legs during the procedure. On the bright side it does not take long.

Whatever you do, make sure that you are going to a Dr. and hospital that performs myelograms specifically! Ask them, better yet, ask them how often they perform them and who the doctor is performing the myelogram so that you can research he or she.

I had two successful myelograms In a notable hospital. My last one was the worst experience of my life. Went to a different hospital and even asked if the Dr. did these specifically etc. The second he injected me, he tilted the table and I felt the contrast in the back of my skull. Had instant headache and nauseousness.

Then I went into seizures. I had 3 and ended up in cardiac intensive care, admitted to the hospital for 4 days, had amnesia and wanted to blow my head off headache immediately afterwards and slowly regained my memory over the past two weeks.

Don't want to scare you, but only go to a hospital that had a radiology dept. that performs myelograms specifically! You want to avoid the spinal headache, it is excruciating. Keep your head down and drink tons of liquids for 2-4 hours afterwards.

It seems this procedure is underrated, it is serious. I thought the first 2 were bad enough and I was fine afterwards. I thought the 3rd would be a piece of cake, instead it almost killed me!

Best of luck to you. Don't be afraid, just prepared - Ask questions!!!
