Hi Davy, Debbie, and Lori,

Davy--That's GREAT news about your fusion!!! How did your surgeon determine whether or not you had fused? I infer that you had an MRI prior to today's appointment. Or, if I am mis-inferring (?), did you have a CT scan? In any case, the fact that you have fused after three months gives me HOPE!

Debbie and Lori--Are you SURE you had the same surgery as Davy and I did? We both had a vertebra AND the discs above and below it removed. That's why Davy calls his surgery a VERTEBRECTOMY (British English), and I call mine a CORPECTOMY (American English--corp = (vertebral BODY). It seems to me that the others here have had DISCECTOMY (or diskectomy), which is the removal of just the discs (on one or more levels). Both discectomies and corp/vertebrectomy may involve bone grafts, plates, and fusion. Please let me know if you did in fact have the same surgery--it will only help to give me even MORE hope than I have now!!!

Lori, to answer your question, I am in no pain at all from the neck and haven't been, really. However, my left arm is still pretty much useless, and the numbness in the hand is just as bad as ever. In fact, I see very little improvement (if any) since the surgery (except that the top part of my arm might be less numb). (Of course, I don't know how much of the numbness is from Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (diagnosed in 8/02), how much is from the Multiple Sclerosis (diagnosed in 1/02), and how much is from the neck!)

I'm happy for you for being able to start counting down the days until you can get rid of your torturous collar. As for me, I just want the doctor to turn on the light at the end of the tunnel!

(((((Davy))))), keep the good news coming!!!

to everyone
Barb
