Re: Jbell95 - What?
Apr 23, 2003
Hey Charlotte, I am a Labor and Delivery RN and I injured my neck at work last December repositioning a post-operative C-Section patient.

I started having neck pain that radiated down my left arm and hand a few days later. I ended up going to the ER, x-rays were taken and I was told to follow up with one of the wc panel mds if necessary, which I had to do. On 1/27/03 I had an MRI which showed cervical spondylosis and some "bad discs."

The wc md would not take me off of work, so I went in and continued to work my eight hour shifts. The pain got the best of me and I had to start calling in. Kept going back to the wcmd and all he keeps saying is that my arthritis is causing all of my problems.

Now, I have daily headaches, dizziness, nausea, neck pain that radiates down my left arm and into my hand. I drop things, can't open jars, bottles, etc. with my left hand. If I sleep on my back, the back of my head, neck and entire left arm and hand go to sleep and this will wake me up feeling like only half of me is missing.

My gait is unsteady and I walk like a drunk. Security guards follow me around stores because I walk and move so awkardly. I bump into things and to top things off, I have a bulge at L4-5 and my left leg and foot alternate between numbness, tingling and burning.

I've been to a NS, he says I don't need neck surgery, but doesn't know what is wrong with me. The wcmd says he doesn't think that I'm disabled - won't officially take me out of work. I'm also seeing a neurologist, he has had enough sense to realize that I do not need to be around an L&D unit. What do you suppose would happen to me if I stumbled, tripped and dropped someone's baby?

I have been off work since March 4th. Only one of my coworkers has called to check on me. My supervisor only calls to see when I'll be coming back to work.

You'd think they could send a get well card.

WC is trying to deny everything and blame it all on the preexisting medical conditions, which I didn't know I had. I have never been this sick and hurt in my life.

I spent nine years in the Army and I know that I am or was in good health and shape before getting hurt at work.

Sorry to ramble on and on. I just get so &*$#@# about this situation.

Hi WR, I know what you mean about reading some of the situations that others are having. Somedays I feel ignorant for even wanting to post when I'm feeling sad. You know, some days when I read some of the posts I see I can only just reply "I'm sorry that you're feeling so bad." On other days I just post something silly like "What's your favorite color?" because my situation seems so insignificant compared to the plights of others.

I'm dealing with three different doctors and I'm so frustrated with hearing "Gee, your films are all clear, you don't need surgery, your work injury can not be causing all the the problems you claim to have, etc."

I am using the forums as sources of information and resources so I can do web searches and educate myself. I also enjoy having someone that understands to "talk" to.

I am blessed to have friends and family that do provide support. My father and friends have now started saving coupons from the Sunday paper for me. My father even cooks a bit extra and shares it with me.

My best friend pulled weeds out of my flower bed and put down fresh pine straw for me. She has taken me to appointments and had done many, many things to help out.

Even my ex has been wonderful. He picked me up from the hospital after I had the myelogram from hell. I puked all the way home, a 30 minute ride, he didn't even make me clean it up :D HA HA HA HA. He even takes the little one off of my hands when I need him to.

I am determined to keep my sense of humor despite all of this and to do whatever I can to brighten someone elses day. You know, good karma, good vibes.

Be blessed everyone.

P.S. What is your favorite color :)
