It's a hard decision, isn't it?

Ahhh, the scar and incision. My incision is approx 3 inches long and yes, it does look a bit frightening at first. I wouldn't be too concerned. The only reason it bothered me, is that I develop keloid scarring. Most people's scars fade and the surgeon will usually put the incision in the fold of the neck.

I had donor bone also. The pain from harvesting your own bone from your hip, is much more painful than the actual surgery. It's important to have a fusion to provide longterm stability for your neck.

You will do better than you think. I am 7 days postop now and will have staples out tomorrow. I can tell you that my recovery from this surgery was much quicker than when I had abdominal surgery a few years ago.

God bless,

C4-5 noncompressive disc displacement
C5-6 compressive disc displacement
C6-7 broad based disc protrusion encroaching on the anterioposterior aspect of the spinal canal.
ACDF C6-7 5/13/03 with titanium plate,4 screws, and no collar postop.
