... Hi everyone, I have a question about everyone's recovery from an ACDF C5/C6. I had my surgery in September, 2012. My insurance company denied physical therapy, so I asked my surgeon what exercises I should be doing. He gave me a basic list of exercises, and I started working out with a strength and conditioning coach. At 3 months post-op, I asked if I could go back... (0 replies)
... Hi all I am new to this so please bear with me, I underwent surgery nearly 6 weeks ago for ACDF C5-C6. My friend gave me a hug (nice) about 10 days post surgery......oh the pain :-( my neck clicked and crunched. I have been in constant pain since, sitting upright with support around the neck, laying down in bed is a nightmare. I am unable to trun my head left and... (3 replies)

... Jas1964- welcome to these boards. It's been a Lil while since I have had much to say. Just brooding over all I had taken in! Just today your post enlightened me to do something that, I had not given any thought to. Which is kinda funny only because, I feel I never miss to much when it comes to my health. I just had my ACDF C5-C6 on Dec 7, 2011. I have been following the Docs... (9 replies)
... Hi! I'm a newbie and it looks like I found what I was looking for. I have felt so alone since my surgery and after reading some of the posts I know that others are going through the same thing. I had ACDF C5-C6 January 11th for a large herniation and cord compression. I am only 30 so I feel like I am falling apart. I work in Long term care/Hospice. I just had a few... (5 replies)

... Hello. I am just 10 days post op. I had ACDF C5/C6 with own bone/no plate. I had numbing in left hand pre op. I had spinal compression. The numbing only came on after sleeping. It took me a year to get the nerve to get this done. I was vey scared. My surgeon was good but hospital care at RCH in New Westminster BC, Canada was horrid. It's over so i won't even get into... ... Hi Everyone, Its been 7 weeks since my ACDF C5-C6 and C6-C7 with Plate. I had an appointment with the surgeon today. He reviewed my X-rays and everything is in its proper place, the plate and screws look good and the bones are fusing. My incision looks good, I still have a little swelling and that will go away in time. I was relieved to hear all that. Iím released to... (12 replies)

... Karen:  I am 39 and had a C5-C7 ACDF on 5/18/06. I was in the hospital for 2 nights (partly due to the fact I did not sleep at ALL the first night and partly due to the fact I wanted to have the pain control that the IV allowed, so my doctor and I agreed on a second night). Medical insurance will, generally, pre-authorize 1-2 nights in the hospital. Any more than... (6 replies)
Post-op ACDF C5-C6
Sep 28, 2012
... Hey all, I had an ACDF at C5-C6 with hip autograft on September 18. Prior to surgery, I had severe spinal cord compression and nerve root compression. I have some pretty awful muscle spasms in my traps, and my graft site is really painful. I do have very good ROM in my neck (I don't move it too much, my first post-op visit is Monday), but it cracks sometimes. I am... (1 replies)
... Hi everyone, I am scheduled for an C5-C6 ACDF, and was wondering what the typical recovery time/path was for people who had the same type of surgery. My surgeon said to plan on 6 weeks out of work (I have a desk job), and to really watch my activities for 3-6 months after surgery. Is this the typical recovery time period? Also, any hints/tips for recovery? The reason... (6 replies)
... Hello there, I had acdf of c5-c6 on jan 04. It was pretty successful in that the pain is down to about a 1.5 from a constant high of about 7 or 8, despite percocets and vicodin (12 a day). My hip still hurts from where the doc took the bone out to replace the disc. But oh well, it will pass sooner or later I'm told. I'm scheduled to go back to surgery in may 05 for... (9 replies)

... Lt. I might be able to help. I am retired (IOD) from MNPD and I just had a 3 level anterior cervical disectomy w/fusion(c3-c4/c4-c5/c5/c6) Dec 8th '04 and I have nerve damage to my left upper arm. The back of my neck still hurts and I have another appointment w/ neuro surgeon in June. My lower back will need surgery again (2 previous disectomies) but I am going to put that off... (9 replies)
... Hi this is my first post, but i have been reading the spinal problems boards since my car accident at work on 8/24/04. I am an NYPD Lieutenant and was chasing a stolen motorcycle when he stopped suddenly and our anti-lock breaks failed and my police car skidded into the motorcycle. The mtorcycle operator and the 2 police officers who were in my vehicle are ok-- i was the only... (9 replies)
... Itralian1 - My injury occurred October 30th so not that long ago but everyday since has been hell. I have read many posts that people have waited a very long time before they have surgery. I understand that surgery is the LAST resort and this is probably why people wait. If after my next opinions the NS all agree I plan on hopefully having my C5-C6 fusion within a month or... ... It says: Anterior diskectomy and interbody fusion is seen with metal plate and cortical screws at c5-c6. No abnormal signal intensities are seen in the spinal cord. Loss of signal is seen in the disks due to degeneration. My question is wouldn't there also be loss of signal or no signal in the disks if i had severed nerves in the disks? Also would a severed nerve at the... (4 replies)
... I used the saran wrap for the first month or so after surgery, but you dont really have to do that. I am 2 months post op of the acdf, c5, c6, and it still feels like i swallowed a golf ball at times. My surgeon says it will pass. You sound like you are doing well, I was not that well, and spent 2 nights in the hospital. I hope you recover well. Estella (13 replies)
