... I've had the EMG test back on 2002 which my neuro said was normal. He refuses to re-test and order an updated MRI, stating that I only have arthritis in my neck that everyone gets. I have other issues with my neuro who also treats me for TBI, ADD, Migraine and post-concusive syndrome. Aside from the neck issue, I recently discovered through the TBI rehab work eval that he... ... Hi welcome to the board. Sorry for your problems. There is a test called EMG (electromyogram) that can test for radiculopathies (nerve root compression). It isn't pleasant, a little painful at times, but can give more information to the story. The EMG helps to distinguish between muscle conditions in which the problem begins in the muscle and muscle weakness due to... (17 replies)
C4-C5 symptoms?
Jul 3, 2007
... C4-5 can can also cause pain on the arm pathway. Especially on the forearm. Look up dermatome chart. When I had nerve root compression, I had the most intense burning I ever felt in my forearm. After my first surgery at 4-6 this completely resolved. When you say last January, do you mean 2007 or 2006? It would be a little soon for Jan 2007 to have it go bad, but I... (14 replies)
... Alex When I first learned I needed an ACDF, it was horrified at the thought, so I know how you feel. I ended up having two operations 1 year apart, to fuse C4/5/6/7. My experience - the first 2 or 3 days I needed to not do much of anything but rest. You will have pain meds, and that helps a lot. My post-op pain was between the shoulder blades and had to do with the... (6 replies)
... Alex, I had a 2 level ACDF in Jan. I would say at a minimum, allow 6 weeks for recovery. My pain has lessoned considerably. It hasnt all gone away, but the quality of my life has vastly improved. I really think that getting rid of my bone spurs helped me alot. I didnt have much cord compression, though. Mostly I had degenerative disks and arthritis. The thing I believe helped... (6 replies)

... Same here. 3 bulged disks, stenosis and a large bone spur indenting the cord at the C5-C6. Have been to two ENT's who have both said swallowing problem has nothing to do with my neck injur, Spine Specialist agrees. Have had every test under the sun done and nothing. Have a slightly enlarged thyroid that has been outruled as the problem. Just seems coincidental to me as it... (12 replies)
... I had swallowing problems off and on after my accident. I went to a GI doc and had a swallow study done and everything came back fine; it doesn't hurt to get it checked out though, everybodies situation can be different, they make actually find something for you. ... I have been observing this site since shortly after my 1/2/07 surgery, and it has been VERY helpful - thank you to so many of you that have been brave enough to share your own experiences and feelings.
