... I had a C3-4 ACDF for severely herniated disk 16 years ago. One of the symptoms was hyperreflexivity of right knee. I don't think the hyperreflexivity of the knee has gotten any better (not that it really matters). I also have a little bit of weakness in the right hip/leg, because the myelomalacia that resulted from the disk herniation means that fewer of my muscle fibers are... (13 replies)

... Hi all I am new to this so please bear with me, I underwent surgery nearly 6 weeks ago for ACDF C5-C6. My friend gave me a hug (nice) about 10 days post surgery......oh the pain :-( my neck clicked and crunched. I have been in constant pain since, sitting upright with support around the neck, laying down in bed is a nightmare. I am unable to trun my head left and... (3 replies)

... Hello, I'm relatively new to this board. For the past several months my doc has recommended a disckectomy due to disc herniations at C5-C6 and C6-C7 with moderate cervical stenosis. I read on this post someone had this procedure done plus fusion (a few years ago) without hardware. Is this standard practice now. I've also read without fusion at the time of the first surgery,... ... Hi K..This is my first post on this site....have had surgery for C5 - C7 stenosis to help prevent further nerve damage and sufer many similar symptoms.....What I have found to be my saviour for pain releif is a combonation of Lrica and Advil extra strength liquid jells. I take 150 mg of Lyrica 5 times per day and at the same time 400 mg of advil. Itake each set with a big... (12 replies)
... I already know the answer to most of these questions because my NS and his PA told me without me even having to ask. Thanks for posting this. (25 replies)
... I'm 25 y/o and have been told in the past that I have scoliosis...(this was just by an ortho looking at my shoulders; it was actually an appt for my son & he pointed this out just by looking at me) Anyway...no tests/xrays/nothing...I just kinda forgot about it... and now (5 years later) due to both of my hands going numb, (and I was diagnosed with bilateral carpal tunnel)... ... Itralian1 - My injury occurred October 30th so not that long ago but everyday since has been hell. I have read many posts that people have waited a very long time before they have surgery. I understand that surgery is the LAST resort and this is probably why people wait. If after my next opinions the NS all agree I plan on hopefully having my C5-C6 fusion within a month or... ... Jas1964- welcome to these boards. It's been a Lil while since I have had much to say. Just brooding over all I had taken in! Just today your post enlightened me to do something that, I had not given any thought to. Which is kinda funny only because, I feel I never miss to much when it comes to my health. I just had my ACDF C5-C6 on Dec 7, 2011. I have been following the Docs... (9 replies)
... I found a site on line that listed a million questions to ask your surgeon prior to surgery. I was at a lose of specific questions to ask. I am not sure but they were general for any .surgery and then some specific for the type of surgery. How long have you been completing this particular surgery? How many have you done? What approach will you use? How long of a surgery?... (25 replies)
... I had a C3-4 ACDF in 1996, performed at Cedars Sinai in Beverly Hills. The outcome was excellent, although I have some lingering symptoms. I have since then had a C5 foraminotomy and a C4-6 laminoplasty, both performed at Saint Johns in Santa Monica. Both went well, although it may be a little early to judge the laminoplasty. The right-left switch happens above your... (25 replies)
... First of all I want to say I am new to the healthboards site but have spent some time reading other posts which have been helpful as I don't feel alone. To give everyone a quick background I am 47 and back in my 20's was in an accident where I received whiplash but at that age bounced back with no problems. In 2005 had a bulging C6-C7 disc which healed with therapy and meds.... (25 replies)
... Physical Therapy wouldn't help the neck spasms right now as you can't do enough movement to work on the muscles. Hopefully you have been prescribed a strong muscle relaxant and are taking pain meds on schedule. Personally the more pain I'm in the more I tense up my neck, shoulder, and upper back muscles. Soma 350 has been the best help in relaxing muscles. In regards... (6 replies)

... Web... Thank you for that. Exactly, that was my point when he rang me back. Also, I asked about my collapsed C5. Considering it is not normal.. But hay ho there. Well, he is a nerval/spinal specialist but not a surgeon due to personal reasons.. So, basically he see's no need to pass it on to an orthapedic surgeon for them to look at and to operate on. It is ok.... (11 replies)

... See the neurologist. The nerves that exit to the body at C5 and 6 don't serve the pinky finger. That is served by the nerve that exits at the C8 space which is in between C7 and T1 vertebrae. ... (1 replies)

... I am home recovering as of yesterday. Surgery went ok but did have some minor complications with swelling of my neck and esophagus day after which kept me in the hospital a couple extra days. After surgery I no longer have the temporary paralyzes, pain, dizziness, numbness or headaches. I guess it's safe to say it was a success but I still have four weeks of recovery before... (4 replies)
... They are removing 2 disk the c5 & c6. The doctors I have dealt with have been impossible to work with to say the least! The neuro surgeon did not explain anything to me & I did not know what to ask I was in a state of shock when he told me it was pinching my spinal cord in two places & that if I did not have the surgery I would eventually be paralyzed. So I'm going in blind... (4 replies)
... I go in for surgery tomorrow for them to replace my c5 & c6 that have ruptured & pinching my spinal cord can anyone tell me what it's going to be like when I come out of surgery & if the numbness, dizziness & pain will go away? (0 replies)
