C6-7 Fusion
Sep 5, 2006
... Hi - I had fusion- a 2 level C4-6 in 2004 and after that I noticed no real loss of any motion, maybe a when little looking up. Recently I had a 3rd level added C6-7 and again I noticed no real loss. You may lose a little, but most people that I have heard from on board did not really impact them. As far as will other levels be affected? There is no way to predict.... (11 replies)
C6-7 Fusion

... I'm a little concerned about my upcoming surgery. I am supposed to have C6-7 spinal fusion. My concerns are this: How much will this limit my movement in my neck and back? Will I need to have surgery again later on in life because of surrounding disk deterioration? I am only 34 and want to be able to proceed with a normal active life with my kids. Originally the surgeon... (11 replies)
... After my c6/7 discectomy/fusion I was put into a foam neck brace which help quite a bit. Ask your doc about that. Another suggestion...I slept in a recliner, on my back, sometimes on my side and with an ice bag. The ice bag was not on my neck just as a cuddle tool. It helped to keep me cool and did keep my mind off the pain. I was in this recliner for 8 weeks. Be... (6 replies)

... Please tell your wife not to hold or pick up the baby too soon. I know that will be hard to do. I haven't had surgery yet but yesterday at work a lady came in with her baby. I held the baby on my side (hip) for a little while with my right arm. I could only hold for about a minute and my arm and neck were really hurting. That is just an ackward position on the arm and... ... Personally, I am still in some pain after 12 weeks but it is not the same pain as before the surgery. I had the same surgery as your wife. This is not a quick healing process I have been told. The best advise I have is not to get discouraged and give it time. Do not lift or overdo as that will set back the healing process and by all means, try not to get too discouraged. ... (9 replies)
... Great board!!! I am looking for help. My wife had fusion of C6-7 with graft and plates. Her scar is bigger and in a different locaiton than she though so this brought her down. Beyond that she still has the arm, and sholder pain that she had before due to the herniation of the disc. She had the herniation for almost two years. We put off surgery as we were trying to... ... I would say the possibility that the disk will get better, depends on how bad it is. I had C-5/6 and c6/7 fusion with plate on 6/30. My symptoms were similar to what you discribe only mosly on my left side. I had this pain for more than 20 years but finally got to point where I was losing strength in arm and hand. There are things you can do to relieve the pain, but I... (5 replies)

... I recently had my C6-7 fused and the scar is about 4-5" long. I'm considering having my incision lasered to make it less noticeable. I would love to hear from anyone who has had any cosmetic procedures or recommends any special products to lessen the look of the scar. (9 replies)
... I am really starting to freak out concerning my surgeon's choice of a posterior entry.......that will be my first question when I see him for pre-op app't on the 18th. My Physical therapist is also curious; & asked me today if I would mind him coming to the appointment. What a nice guy?! If I have any doubts whatsoever, I want to postpone.........can I do that so... (19 replies)

... After reading posts on this board I know this is a familiar and all to common story. In December of 2007 I had a fusion of c 3-4 and c6-7. I had some relief but only for a short time. I have been back to my NS several times and have had MRI and cat scans. They took x-rays and have been assured that there is nothing wrong with my surgery and that nothing else can be done. I... ... that I will certainly have surgery due to the level of my pain and increasing symptoms. I have researched some and am very concerned about the anterior approach fusion as I rely on my vocal cords. I am a singer and use it in my career. ... (6 replies)
... Hi, I had the same problem 14 some years ago. The Index finger is the clue that the problem is at C5/6. The disc could have been weak then many c-fusion recipients over tax it because it is above the two rigid vert's. below. I had the surgery about a year after the C6/7 ACDF for that reason. I don't know what to tell you except: If you have donor bone then I'd go for the... (3 replies)
