... Sue - IMO The surgery would be for the spine issues, not the fibromyalgia, although it may be hard to seperate which symptoms are which. When the symptoms get as bad as Margarets and mine (similar to hers) then surgery is definitly needed (or there is risk of paralysis). I personally had a doc recommend laminectomy instead of ACDF which has its pluses/minuses but avoids... (11 replies)
... s, such as dizzyness, pain, weakness, and has now progressed to not being able to walk very far, memory problems, fuzzy brain, etc. He was finally diagnosed with fibromyalgia and is on disability. In our search on the web we came up with Dr. Dan Heffez's name. He used to be in Chicago, but is now in Milwaukee. ... (11 replies)
... I was told that any additional trauma, ie, car accident could potentially cause paralysis. For me, surgery was not an elective surgery. And so, I live with the fibromyalgia as a result. ... (8 replies)

... Iím new to the site and have tried to read other cervical spine posts in order to get informed. My problem is that my MRI results, to a degree, donít really mention spinal stenosis. I have had pain in my neck and shoulder; pain, burning, tingling and sometime numbing in my shoulder, arm and hand. My Rheumatologist wanted me to start PT and see a neurosurgeon, so I... (2 replies)
... Surprised your NS is recommending surgery with mild to moderate compression and no pain. Surgeons do surgery, so at one level, it's no surprise that's the recommendation. I would consider getting a second opinion, and wait as long as you are comfortable, weighing the risks. I had ACDF at C5-6 and 6-7, but I had severe spinal cord compression, with numbness, weakness in... (8 replies)

... verall feel I had a good outcome. If not for the delay in my evaluation and treatment, I feel I would have considered it an excellent recovery. I later developed Fibromyalgia and Lupus which have caused me some health issues but as for the ACDF I feel I got great results. ... (7 replies)
... Long time since I have been posting here. I usually hang out on the Pain Management or Fibroymyalgia side now adays. However, now that I am having my 3rd neck surgery (acdf C6/7) tomorrow I was wondering how many others there will be???? Thus far I had a laminectomy C6/7 in 2003, ACDF 2005 and now a ACDC C6/7? Hopefully not more then that, haven't got the MRI results back to... (5 replies)
... Hi all, I just got through my first eval with neuro surgeon and he says my exterior is healing well from ACDF on C5-6. In 3 weeks we start the xrays. As anyone who has had this knows, you cannot take NSAIDs including arthritis meds. The problem I am facing now is that I have extensive arthritis throughout my body, fibromyalgia and myofacscial syndrome from a fall I took 2... (1 replies)
... t! I know this is way too long and if you've actually read all the way down to here, thank you. I just wanted to explain further, that this latest thing with the ACDF isn't like a first resort. I really appreciate hearing about other people's experiences. I know that this surgery isn't something we want to just jump into. ... (11 replies)
... Surgery should be the last option... I have been in pain since 2003 and swore to never ever ever have the surgery, but I had tried every possible thing to correct the pain and in the end nothing worked. I actually started out with a Chiropractor, because at that time they thought that I had a sprained neck, and the Chiro made it sooo much worse. I then tried Phys. therapy,... (11 replies)
... Hi Sue, I ditto the above comments. I was told I needed surgery due to my disc flattening my spinal cord. I tried MANY therapies in hopes of relief that didn't involve surgery...accupuncture, myofascial therapy, osteopathic therapy...I was wiiling to try anything. I was experiencing and still am experiencing a host of neurological problems. My balance is still not... (11 replies)

Nov. 29/04 I had an ACDF on C5/6 6/7 with donor bone and titanium pins and plates. I have had neck pain for at least 5 years now also shoulder aches and pains... (2 replies)
... SpineAZ Thank you so much for your quick reply. I really appreciate it. I am a very emotional person and I feel like I am so alone with my pain that when he said that he actually saw why I was in pain that I started tearing up even though I know the reason why I am in pain before even hearing what the Cat Scan and MRI say. I know the arthritis and bonespurs alone above... (22 replies)
... t I don't take these fibro words lightly. I have had pain for about a year so I guess the disc could have caused this stuff. I know there is a separate board for fibromyalgia but would like some feedback from some of us other cervies. Anybody ever experienced DDD and Fibromyalgia? ... (2 replies)
... I have been fighting neck and anerior throat pain and headachesfor about 6 years. I lso had arm pain which I thought was severe flare up f Fibromyalgia. Up until this year I was told there was no compression on my spinal cord and my headaches and neck/jaw pain could not be caused by my neck. I had nerve blocks at c2-3 and 3-4 that did not help. Then nerve blocks at c4-5,... (2 replies)
... Hi Everyone: I am going to try and make this as short as possible even though my story is very complicated. I have had chronic pain for over 11 years. I had surgery in Nov. of 2003 for bones spurs, arthritis and degenerating discs. and also had at that time a terrible headache for 3 years 24/7. The did an anterior fusion with titanium cage and 6 screws and also 2 donor... (22 replies)
