... I had fusion surgery for c5/c6 and c6/c7 with donor bone, plates, screws, etc. on Feb. 23. Had my 6-week check up with x-rays. The doctor asked if I was a smoker (which I'm not). That was my first hint that I might not be healing as fast as he'd hoped. He was in such a hurry to get to his next appt., that I could barely ask any questions. Well, a week ago, I get a call... ... Is the broken hardware causing any symptoms? If it is, I would want a second opinion on getting it out to remove any compression the broken hardware may be causing. The alternative to the posterior revision suggested would be another anterior fusion by replacing the hardware and fusing both levels c4/5 and c5/6. If there aren't any symptoms I would want a second opinion... (5 replies)

... Hello my scared friend, Well, I am one of those "failed fusion patients". I had an ACDF on C5-C6 in Feb 2005 and unfortunately has persistent pain with that. My first surgeon (an ortho doc) did a couple of things that later I found out weren't so great....steroids, ibuprofen, soft collar, and no bone stimulator after the surgery. Last month, when my frustration level hit... (7 replies)

I am 16 weeks in and I have seen the Xrays of mine at 4 - 8 - 12 weeks. At each one of these points, you could see the bone merging together. On the last one it is almost completely connected, with a very faint line between... (5 replies)

... Hi, I started lurking in this board prior to my surgery and have learned a lot. I was impressed by the support and comradeship I saw here. However, I did not feel that I had enough to contribute then, so I did not register to be a member. Now that I have gone through what some have gone through, I can share my experience. Background: I am a 40-year-old male. I... (4 replies)
