... Are you taking the meds you were prescribed post-op, or trying to cut down on them? When I started to wean myself off, I found myself having more and more dizziness with nausea. I went back on the meds - particularly the Soma (muscle relaxant) - and the dizziness and most of the nausea subsided. I still occasionally have waves of nausea, but they don't last too long. Good luck... (4 replies)
... I'm 2 1/2 weeks post op ACDF for C4-5 w/ a plate. I have some good days, which are becoming more frequent but when I have a "bad day" I have a really bad day. ... Hi There, Thanks so much for your reply. I was thinking ( hoping ) they were some sort of muscle spasm but my optimism kinda dwindled when i decided to pay special attention to see if they went away or was a little less when i took my muscle relaxer (Skelaxin) and then laid down and just relaxed, no difference. I am still having LOTS of pain as well. I went to see my family... (7 replies)
... I'm only 3 days post-op, but I think I know what you're talking about, and I think they are related to the muscle spasms. Sometimes I feel like I have the Parkinson-like head movement (think of Katharine Hepburn) - very small but noticeable head movements. And when the spasms are really bad in my shoulder, it seems to lift my whole arm up. I'm finding it hard to relax my... (7 replies)
... Leo, that's great news! I go back to see the surgeon on Wednesday, hope he cuts me loose, too. I'll be 4 months post-op at that point. Enjoy being at least somewhat more active. ... Hi Linda, Your posting was very encouraging. Thank you so much. I know it's been a while since you had the surgery, and how do you feel now? I am scheduled to have Anterior Cervical Discectomy June 3rd on my C4-5, C5-6 with donor bone and metal plates and screws. I've researched and found out that this procedure is quite routine now. But no matter how strong and prepared... (24 replies)

... You need to slow WAY down and give your body some time to heal. I think most ACDF patients aren't even allowed to drive yet at 2 weeks post op let alone go back to work. ... (4 replies)
... Helly Kerry, After reading your post, I am wondering if my surgery will be like yours! I am undergoing surgery the end of this month. My surgery will be exactly like yours except I will not have plating. I will have cages inserted and I wll have to wear a hard collar immediately after surgery! (which I dread) I will pray that your healing be PAINFREE...... (12 replies)
... I'll keep this as short as I can... I had a 2 level (c-5/6 & c-6/7) ACDF on February 8, 2008. Here it is 16 weeks later about all I can say is things are different - not better. Prior to surgery left arm & deltoid pain were my main complaints. Immediately after the surgery my left shoulder began to hurt in the form of a constant ache and occasional sharp pain and my left... ... I was just wondering what you all were told by your NS as far as your limitations/directions post-op. I had an ACDF (C6-C7) two weeks ago (cadaver graft) and am in an Aspen collar for 4 to 6 weeks - fyi. I was basically told no housework; no lifting more than 10 lbs (when at first he told me no more than a milk jug and then on my written post-op instructions it said no... (7 replies)
