... Marcia, I have only had an x-ray.The Dr is convinced this is the problem. I have had bouts of pain,headaches for 2 months.Also in this time I have had sciatica.Treated with steroids and narcotis. This kinda still bothers me with some tingling in lower legs. Im frustrated because prior to this I was otherwise healthy.BTW thanks for the response. (6 replies)

... Sorry I was away. It sounds like the same area from what you say. I may be in the later stages (so to speak) because I've had this for about 4 years and at first it was what you describe in not causing pain. I also had a Oral & Maxillofacial surgeon tell me he wasn't impressed after feeling it. He sent me for a TMJ MRI which came out negative for TMJ. I think what happened... (5 replies)

Heyas, thanks for replying, for questions; doctor did have a feel of the swelling, it hasn't increased in size at all and is completly painless, just been feeling slight discomfort around the area lately, which is more likely due to my recent extended hours in front of the computer xD As for the swelling it's self; it is located directly below the knobby bit at top of back... ... The swelling I have is right behind my left ear lobe. It is where the SM muscle connects but to the front and under. Long sitting and standing makes my pain worse. The knot or swelling when not activated is slightly tender but becomes harder and more painful as it is activated. ... (5 replies)

... a big ditto on what fiona just mentioned to you. i was going to tell you the very same thing. an ray will only show the outter boney structures and not what you really need to see here,the inside where the nerves and spinal cord are. i would most definitely ask your doc for that MRI,preferably with a contrasting agent,it just helps certain things show up much more clearly than... ... As the other poster said, you should have appropriate tests done to determine the extent of the damage. Anything more than a few days could be something serious. (6 replies)
