Life wasted
Dec 4, 2003
Hey, I'm 19 and have suffered with acne since I was 13. I don't mean a few pimples, but an acually acne problem (been to dermatologist for 6 years as well). I don't even remember what life was like without acne. A friend of mine had his birthday the other day, and something dawned upon me. The last 6 years of my life have been wasted (taken from me) because of acne and I can never get those years back. I still currently battle with acne. I don't expect it to go away until I'm about 23 (hereditary statistics). I can't go on like this. I've realized that my life WON'T start until my acne is gone. I can't get a girlfriend until my acne is gone. I can't get any confidence in myself until my acne is gone. I can't move out with my friends cause my acne is too high maintenance. Every night when I go to bed, I know that the next day is going to be the same as the last. A battle with acne. That's all it is. I don't expect anything good to happen, I don't expect to meet a girl, I don't expect to be in a good mood. All I want is my acne to go away, so I can finally start my life....cause this is no way to live..

So you've identified the problem, why not do something about it?! PMA, positive mental attitude is where it's all at my friend. My brother also had acne when he was like 16, and it was pretty bad, but wow, so many girls just loved him because he never let it phase him, he still had confidence and happiness, etc. I know it's hard, but it's possible. His acne is completely gone now and nothing's different than before. You just have to get into a state of mind where you aren't thinking and dwelling on your skin. You think you've wasted 6 years of your life? So don't let any more go by wasted. FYI: you don't need a girlfriend to have a "life..." So just have fun and don't think about it so much, hang out with your friends, enjoy life... it'll be over before you know it.

Hi Andrew, I am very sorry for you and the problems you are trying to deal with, I just concerned that you seem to think you can not have a life/a girlfriend just because you are suffering from acne. I met my now Husband when he was 16, he too had very bad acne. I would just like to say not all girls are so small minded that they would judge you as unpotential b/friend material just because you have this problem. I was just in his group of friends at the time and knew he liked me, his Personality shone through for me, so don't disclude yourself from everyday life and let someone know if you like them....you never know!...lol. I have a tip how he managed to finally rid himself of the acne, although a lot of people maynot apprecaiate my suggestion, it is a choice you have to decide upon. Anyways He started going on a sunbed a few days a week and it really really helped him, not only did the tan make him look healthier but he also got a lot more conidence. He did'nt use it a lot or for too long at a time. Within about 1 - 2 months the acne was virtually disapeared and was not the main thing in his life anymore. He kept going on the sunbeds for about 6 mths and then never bothered again and the acne did'nt just come back either....and never has ! . I know that sunbeds can create thier own problems if used too much, but there is a safe limit to going on sunbeds and thousands of people use them everyday. I hope this will help you in some way, and remember everybody must have had someone close to them that has had the same problem as you and would be very understanding. Don't just presume because your skin is not like the lads next door, now, that you are not entitled to a life. Hope you consider my tip and if you go ahead hope it works for you as it did my Husband. Take Care luv Tina xxx
