TMJ Disorder -TemporoMandibular Joint Board Index

Hi -
I have had my bite to change after extensive dental work a few years ago. My TMJ specialist made me a splint to wear which has really been helpful. However, my bite is apparently trying to shift back to where it should be and I am having some muscle spasms in my jaw and side of my face along with some burning in my jaw joint (left side).
Does anybody else have this problem or had this problem and what did you do for it? Take muscle relaxants, use heat, etc.?? Any ideas?? Thanks!

I have this same problem - my bite shifted to an open bite, teeth do not come together when I bite down on my 'bad jaw' side or infront. This is a permanent change due to my TMJD. I do take muscle relaxants at night to help with spasms and pain as well as Advil. Splint therapy will help the pain - if you have the right splint, which I still have not been able to find yet. Considering trying a new orthodontist this time (previously used a dentist and before that an oral surgeon who made me splints).

However nothing will make my bite go back to 'normal' accept for braces. The gameplan for me is splint therapy for a few months until I am painfree and then orthodontia - unless I want to wear a splint at night for rest of life and have an uncomfy bite.
