Re: Nti

NTI's can definitely cause open bites by allowing the condyles to seat in a more anatomical position. This is not a good thing because if the condyles seat differently the bite always has to change and it changes to an open bite! Dr. Boyd's new website has a new design for NTI in order to help ward off the potential of developing an anterior open bite by using a flat place appliance with the discluding element on the front of it. I find it distressing that he stated for years that the NTI could not cause an open bite yet now he has redesigned the appliance and even states the reason why on the website. Be careful using an NTI device. It doesn't happen to everyone but it DOES happen and if it happens to you, you will find yourself in one big mess the way I have.
