TMJ Disorder -TemporoMandibular Joint Board Index

Hi,

This is my story. I am a 35 year old lady and have suffered from bruxism for about 10 years. As a result I have got TMJ disorder. I get very nausous and unbalanced (where it feels like I am on a boat all the time). My sinuses are also very inflammed and I have a lack of smell and tastebuds. It feels like my eustation tubes are blocked and I have really bad fluidy blocked ears. I also get very bad headaches, neck, jaw and shoulder pain. I have had brain scans, tests from ENT and visits to maxiofacial dentists where they said breaking my jaw would only be a 35% success rate and could leave parts of my face paralysed. This was not a route I wanted to go down.

I am currently seeing a neuromuscular dentist in the UK, as she said that once my bite is fixed it should help my other problems. I sure as hell hope so cause some days I feel so alone and frustrated that I am getting these symptoms. I am thinking of seeing a chiropractor who specialises in TMJ, does anyone have any advice or similar stories they would like to share with me, cause I would love to hear from you.

Hi Tashie :)

I am so sorry you are feeling so poorly and helpless , I feel the same too so maybe we could encourage each other. I am seeing a neurologist consultant on 4th october at Shrewsbury Hospital , I am hoping he will be more helpful than the maxillo facial consultant. I will keep you posted after my visit. Despite seeming to be in constant pain with my jaw, severe headaches , neck pain , stomach pain and chest pain , nausea and dizziness , and more recently leg pain, I am trying to be positive. I am making the effort to go for a swim later partly to relax and also to do some exercise which is always good for your well being. Haven't exercised in a long long time as always feel so poorly and too tired to make the effort! Please do let me know how you are doing. Good Luck
