I am facing TMJ replacement surgery and am running into some roadblocks getting testing for allergies to the metals in the TMJ implants. I would like to get the blood testing in advance, but am having trouble finding an allergist in the boston area who does this. Does anyone have any info or helpful advice on this. I am not really interested in doing patch testing. Thanks for any input anyone might have.

The TMJ Association had a newsletter where the featured a company that did this type of blood testing. I don't remember where they were but maybe if you can get the blood samples drawn in Boston - you can send to their lab for testing? I can't remember their name - hopefully the article is still available on line.
Yes. The company is called Orthopedic Analysis and they are in Chicago. You can order a kit from them but you need a physician to order the blood draw. I am meeting with an allergist tomorrow who I will attempt to convince to do the lymphocyte transformation testing (a blood test which uses white blood cells). I believe it is more traditional to do patch testing and I was wondering if anyone had been successful in getting an allergist to do the blood testing instead before having tmj replacement surgery. I understand orthopedic surgeons will refer for this type of testing after someone has a reaction to their implants, but not typically before surgery. Please let me know if anyone has been through this and you have any advice regarding physicians in the Boston area who might do this testing.
