... sorry your having tmj probs , but yes elastics can help with the pain , but if your bite isn't open enough , an the braces an elastics are removed the tm pain could come back , that is what happened to me with my first set of braces , before the orthodontist removes your appliances you should realy see a tmj guy , as they would in most case's put you back into braces agian to... ... ion, any splint that makes the TMJ symptoms that much worse and relies on having to deliberately clench to keep it in place isn't an appropriate treatment option for that patient. I think it is normal for the tmjd symptoms to get worse at first because you ahve to adjust, but it shouldn't hurt that intensly. ... (5 replies)
