Hi,
Last year I started with UTI's symptoms, urgency, needed to urinate every hour or so. needless to say that even when this is no life threatening it can be very annoying and disturb your normal life and work.

I went to the doctor each time to find that I had no UTIs nor STDs but the symptoms would remain. I went back home for vacation and went to several urologists, nefrologists, and general practitioners. Finally I found one that ordered me to be tested for Ureaplasma and Mycoplasma, since they can cause this kind of symptoms.
I was positive for Ureaplasma (a bacteria without cell wall that lives in a large percentage of the population), and I underwent a rather harsh treatment: 3 weeks of doxicycline. It was bothersome and harsh, but after 3 weeks I was clear of the bacteria, after 1 year of being sick. The frequency to urinate dissapeared during the treatment, other symptoms as stinging later on. I've been healthy for about 2 months now. And you know how important it is.

This is not an exam that doctors ask to be done as something common and usual, so you might need to ask specifically to be tested for it. But if you've been going through this you might want to be tested. It might be a blessing that you are diagnosed with Ureaplasma or Mycoplasma. They are not too difficult to cure.

coty,
what dosage of the doxy did you take?

Alexis
well, that is possibly the hardest thing to find. I went through a series of doctors that would keep insisting in teling me how to wipe my butt (really!) when I would tell them honestly that I did not have UTI's. It just took a lot of searching. I went to at least 6 different doctors. The one that did hear me was a Urologist, and actually he proposed me to get tested for Ureaplasna before I could ask.

If you think this is what you might have, read the follow article (I hope links are permitted, if not, I'm sorry) to see what symptoms you might have:

And be very stern with your doctor, tell him or her that you want to be tested for this bacteria and that you firmly believe that this is what you have. I still had to fight my way with some doctors that would answer "no, I don't think you have that" without even trying.

Also, you might need to pay for the exam, and it is more epensive than normal UTI exams, but the money is very well invested when you realize that you are getting clear of it.

Good luck! I hope you can find the right doctor!
