Well, to start off residual urine is urine that is left in the bladder after you urinate. I am not sure of how the doctors went about your ultrasound, but based on the results it sounds as though they had you use the bathroom to evaluate the amount of urine left in your bladder after urination. The 71ml of residual urine is the amount of urine left in your bladder after you urinated post-void which is after voiding the urine (or urinating). In order to help prevent recurrent UTI's (which can be caused by residual urine), and to help clear any residual urine try this: wait a few moments before leaving the bathroom after you have used the bathroom-and try to pee again-this can help to clear any residual urine.
