Cancer: Uterine Message Board

Cancer: Uterine Board Index

I have had two occurrences of watery, light pink spotting that lasted about 5 days each and happened about 37 days apart. With the second one I had severe low back and pelvic pain on the left side. I went to my gyno because I take Tamoxifen and know that uterine cancer is a side effect of this drug. I am 48 years old and have no way of knowing if I'm perimenopause because of the Tamoxifen and the way it interferes with estrogen. Yesterday I had a transvaginal us and the tech told me my uterine lining is 9.2mm thick, I have lots of fibroids and a cyst on the right ovary about the same size as the ovary itself. She said the cyst can cause abnormal bleeding, but everything I've read tells me cysts cause more of a heavy bleeding, not the light spotting that I had (it wasn't even enough to show on a pad, only on toilet paper). I've also read that fibroids don't typically cause bleeding. What I thought was strange was that with the last spotting episode my pain was on the left side, but she said my left ovary looked fine. I've not had any symptoms on my right side which is where the cyst is. I was kind of hoping there would be some polyps in my uterus as I know those can cause bleeding, but there werent' any. The US tech was wonderful, let me see everything and asked me several times if I had any other questions. I was so taken aback by this that I didn't ask any which I am now regretting. I'm scheduled for an endometrial biopsy next week to check for cancer. This is my biggest concern...I'll deal with anything else as long as they tell me I don't have cancer. My confusion here is if it is possible that this spotting could really be caused by the cyst or the fibroids. Does anyone have any input on that? My periods have kind of been all over the place and the last what I would call a regular period was in early April. Since then it's just been the two spotting episodes. Does anyone have any advice about what other questions to ask my doctor when I go in for the biopsy? Even good doctors (which mine is) don't offer up a lot of information if we don't ask, so I want to make sure I ask everything...I just feel so ignorant about all of this that I'm not even sure what to ask. I'm very grateful for any information or advice anyone has.

Thank you!
